Don’t worry, I’m not learning German now.\u00a0\u00a0 I’m here in Frankfurt Airport, der flughafen, with a freakin’ five hour layover and, I’m not kidding, it smells like it’s filled with dirty, dusty, severely bath-challenged people.\u00a0 I’ll tell you, it’s very hard to sleep with that odor wafting around, I should have shoved some earplugs in my nose and got some shuteye.\u00a0 But instead I wandered around looking for what every sleepy person looks for in a German airport at 7am.<\/p>\n

Brat.<\/p>\n

If I can stop giggling like a teenage boy, maybe I’ll even try to eat this thing.<\/p><\/div>\n

Oh yeah.\u00a0 Now that’s what I’m talking about.\u00a0 Actually, brat is not that easy to find in the Frankfurt airport…thought there would be bratwurst everywhere, but there was so much more ramen and sushi and doner kebabs and pizza.\u00a0 It took me almost two hours and two terminals to find this little gem. Hermann’s Mobil,<\/a> a food cart specializing in Thuringian sausages, whatever those are, can be found in Terminal 1 somewhere around the A gates, and they are open pretty damned early in the a.m., you know, if you need a brat fix. You can have your sausage with bread or a pretzel and they even serve beer so you have a whole German culinary experience from one cart!\u00a0 Oh how I love eating from food carts.\u00a0 Maybe I’ll blog about food carts in San Sebasti\u00e1n!\u00a0 Anyway, they didn’t have any currywurst so I settled for the next most pornographic-looking pork wurst, the Reifenbachwurst.\u00a0 Okay I made that up because I can’t remember, but it did start with an R.\u00a0 I loaded up the plate with fried onions, pickles and mustard. Yum.\u00a0 I’m thinking of blogging with a food angle while I’m in working from Spain this summer, so I figured this is as good a time as any to start!<\/p>\n

Now, as if it wasn’t embarrassing enough walking around holding this thing, I had to figure out a way to eat it without any utensils.\u00a0 No matter what, I was going to have to pick this sucker up, most likely with two hands.\u00a0 So I figured the most delicate, ladylike way to deal with it was to find a dark corner, break it in half and hide it in the roll.\u00a0 Worked like a charm.<\/p>\n

Okay, only a few more hours to go and I’ll be in Spain!<\/p>\n
