{"id":880,"date":"2011-10-24T20:45:58","date_gmt":"2011-10-25T02:45:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/?p=880"},"modified":"2011-10-24T20:45:58","modified_gmt":"2011-10-25T02:45:58","slug":"botas-nuevas-aventuras-nuevas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/botas-nuevas-aventuras-nuevas\/","title":{"rendered":"Botas nuevas, aventuras nuevas&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Blame Roe.\u00a0 She made me find my password so I could blog again.\u00a0 So here I am! \u00a0 Back in Quetzaltenango with my beloved clowns, this time juggling a full-time job (what a telecommute!) and designing promotion material for a super duper 10-day <em>Teatro del Oprimido<\/em> event in January, and their new <em>calendario<\/em> and&#8230;and&#8230;I&#8217;d like to build another stove or two while I&#8217;m here.\u00a0 And hike up <em>volc\u00e1n Santaguito<\/em>.\u00a0 And do a 4-day trek to Nebaj. And visit a few Mayan ruins. And go to the beach.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_881\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-881\" class=\"size-large wp-image-881 \" title=\"2011-10-14_13-12-15_444\" src=\"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/2011-10-14_13-12-15_444-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"591\" height=\"444\" srcset=\"https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/2011-10-14_13-12-15_444-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/2011-10-14_13-12-15_444-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/2011-10-14_13-12-15_444.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 591px) 100vw, 591px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-881\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">These boots were made for web designing.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been here almost a week and I may as well just be home.\u00a0 It feels that easy and comfortable&#8230;I did think I was going to have trouble getting up to Xela.\u00a0 Right before I arrived, Guatemala apparently had 15 days straight of torrential rain.\u00a0\u00a0 Roads were closed, and travel north was reportedly not possible.\u00a0\u00a0 Roads were definitely closed and there were mudslides and detours galore, but I wasn&#8217;t stuck for more than a day in Antigua.\u00a0 And I bet if I tried real hard, I could have gotten here last Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>But instead I chilled in Antigua for a day.\u00a0 Caught up on work from home, met Stef&#8217;s friend Cristophe who has a cute little hotel called Chez Cristophe right off <em>el parque.<\/em>\u00a0 Had some nice conversations in Spanish with drivers, waiters, porters.\u00a0 I was using all sorts of tenses and chatting easily about all sorts of subjects, which gave me a false confidence in my Spanish-speaking abilities.\u00a0 Up until the moment William (my most successful conversation!) dropped me off in front of<em> mi casa<\/em> from <em>Cuatro Caminos<\/em>, I was really optimistic that I learned so much last year and that a year of not practicing much didn&#8217;t do that much damage. \u00a0 But when I was out the other night I had a real hard time following normal conversation.\u00a0 And I told Fernando (musician I know from here, who transported calendars to NYC last year) to have a good trip to somewhere he wasn&#8217;t traveling to.\u00a0 Twice.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe I can only speak service-industry Spanish.\u00a0 And maybe I can only really understand children, Spanish teachers and very patient young tour guide operators.<\/p>\n<p>Hoping to blog a few times a week, but have a heavy workload and would really like to spend weekends exploring&#8230;but I do have 24 hour access to hi-speed internet&#8230;and I can upload pics from the house this year so watch out&#8230;<em>dia de los muertos<\/em> is just around the corner!\u00a0 Okay, I think there&#8217;s a glass of wine in the kitchen with my name on it&#8230;<em>mas ma\u00f1ana<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blame Roe.\u00a0 She made me find my password so I could blog again.\u00a0 So here I am!
