So tomorrow I start\u00a0classes at my new\u00a0school, Pop Wuj<\/a>.\u00a0 It is about a mile from where I am living and it is right across the street from a chifa<\/em>.\u00a0 I am so psyched.\u00a0 I love Chinese food in different countries\u00a0and\u00a0so far I have only seen one restaurant in\u00a0the 15 block radius that has been my life the last month or so.\u00a0 And I can\u00a0never tell if it is open.\u00a0 And I didn’t really like the pictures of the Chinese food on the half open door so I haven’t tried it yet.\u00a0 This one looks like a proper chifa<\/em> and I am soooo eating there tomorrow.\u00a0 Oh yeah, I am also pretty excited about the school change.\u00a0 Graduated from Celas Maya on Friday and I do think I stayed there at least a week\u00a0too long.\u00a0 Maybe even two.\u00a0 But it was so convenient!\u00a0 Oh well.\u00a0 I wonder if Pop Wu will have class\u00a0bells.\u00a0 Just in case one of you\u00a0hasn’t already heard me say, which is highly doubtful, this is the school that has the rural stove construction project <\/a>that\u00a0I have been dying to work on.\u00a0 Every Wednesday, instead of sitting with my teacher for five hours going over all the grammatical equivalents in English\u00a0I don’t remember from grade school and keep forgetting in Spanish, he\/she will be using the imperative to direct me on how to build a safe stove.\u00a0 Yes, I am still insured.<\/p>\n

So I have been working hard on laying out the calendar and I am pretty close to done.\u00a0 The graphic theme is big, beautiful, colorful, clown close-ups, framed\u00a0by\u00a0funky picture frames against different textured backgrounds.\u00a0 I suggested that each month\u00a0have a\u00a0\u00a810 years of…something\u00a8 theme.\u00a0\u00a0Such as \u00a810\u00a0a\u00f1os de la esperanza\u00a8<\/em> or \u00a810 a\u00f1os de activismo\u00a8<\/em> and I have been\u00a0selecting\u00a0supporting photos and incorporating them into each design.\u00a0 Like October is \u00a810 a\u00f1os\u00a0de controversia\u00a8<\/em> and it has a great photo of\u00a0an overcome Tony looking\u00a0past\u00a0the frame of his picture at several pictures of\u00a0human-sized condom muppets.\u00a0 Two are bent and seem to be bowing\u00a0and one is dancing.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Each month has a different Proyecto Payaso<\/em>\u00a0initiative, but I have just been winging the themes based on what I understand about the organization, but this is something\u00a0I really\u00a0need Stef and Tony to decide on\u00a0and definitely help with\u00a0Spanish text.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Caldo de frutas in drunk town (there were an awful lot of fall-down\/fell-down inebriates in this town). <\/p><\/div>\n

I can’t believe I didn’t\u00a0blog at all\u00a0last week.\u00a0\u00a0 This always happens when I keep a journal too.\u00a0 In the beginning I am gung ho and write every single day.\u00a0 Then\u00a0every other day, then once a week…until suddenly\u00a0I am home watching a rerun of something and trying to remember the name of the volcano I climbed.\u00a0 Speaking of volcanoes, I almost did the Santa Maria<\/em> midnight trek on Friday.\u00a0 Then I heard that 20 people were going and that just turned me off.\u00a0 Besides that,\u00a0I just wasn’t motivated to go.\u00a0 And I would like to think that I should probably should be pretty damned motivated to climb a volcano at night…without a headlamp\u00a0. I want to do this trip with Quetzaltrekkers<\/a>\u00a0anyway…they support a local children’s education center here in Xela with proceeds from all their hikes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Weaving Ikat textile. All throughout the demonstration, I kept singing \u00a8Dude weaves like a lady\u00a8 to that Aerosmith song (in my head) and I don't know why.<\/p><\/div>\n

I also learned how to curse in Spanish last week.\u00a0 Some real soucio<\/em> stuff.\u00a0\u00a0We had a\u00a0class one afternoon taught by Josue, Chloe’s novio<\/em> and it was hysterical.\u00a0 Of course, I forgot most of them but thankfully I wrote them down.<\/p>\n

So after five weeks of studying Spanish, I can now speak crappy Spanish in many different tenses and three moods instead of just crappy Spanish in the first person, present indicative.\u00a0\u00a0Yes, I am still speaking like a two-year old, a confused two-year old with regressing vocabulary.\u00a0 I\u00a0honestly don’t understand how I know so many Guatemalans and why they keep inviting me out and want to talk to me when I continually butcher their language.\u00a0\u00a0 Okay, granted, sometimes I blurt out a whole fantastic sentence.\u00a0 And if I were to take a written test on everything I learned I would probably ace it.\u00a0 On Thursday and Friday, when we were starting the subjunctive, right after\u00a0conjugating irregular verbs,\u00a0I was writing complete, correct sentences\u00a0using two different moods.\u00a0 Now, if I had to orally construct those sentences, lord knows what would come out of my mouth!\u00a0<\/p>\n

Going to study a little before going to bed.\u00a0 He estudiado espa\u00f1ol por las \u00faltimas cinco semanas y quiero que aprende m\u00e1s durante las proximas dos semanas.<\/em>\u00a0 Now that is a pretty good sentence I think.\u00a0 And I wrote it quite naturally and quickly, almost the way I would in English. And if someone said that to me, I would understand it.\u00a0 But if I were attempting to say it to someone, who knows which of the three indicative past tenses would come out, that is, if I miraculously didn’t choose the present tense.\u00a0 Does anyone know any effective speaking exercises for learning another language?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
