{"id":538,"date":"2010-09-27T16:41:09","date_gmt":"2010-09-27T22:41:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/?p=538"},"modified":"2010-09-27T21:59:08","modified_gmt":"2010-09-28T03:59:08","slug":"la-lluvia-la-lluvia-vayase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/la-lluvia-la-lluvia-vayase\/","title":{"rendered":"La lluvia, la lluvia v\u00e1yase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wow, when they say that September and October are the rainiest months in Xela, they weren\u00b4t kidding.\u00a0 I have never seen this much rain even during monsoon season in Southeast Asia.\u00a0 This weekend wasn\u00b4t only rainy,\u00a0 it was freezing as well.\u00a0 I was working in my wool hat, scarf and one\u00a0mitten\u00a0(really difficult to\u00a0navigate a\u00a0mouse\u00a0in a mitten-clad hand.\u00a0 At one point I\u00a0was wearing\u00a0two pairs of pants and three shirts and I managed to squeeze my fleece jacket over that as well.\u00a0 And I wasn\u00b4t even outside!\u00a0 And then came the blackout.\u00a0 Ohhhh, if I only found my headlamp, I would have been wearing that for extra warmth AND be prepared for power outages.\u00a0 Thankfully I had a flashlight, and the stove is gas because, <em>por supuesto<\/em>, I was in the middle of cooking dinner.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_514\" style=\"width: 624px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0937.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-514\" class=\"size-large wp-image-514 \" title=\"IMG_0937\" src=\"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0937-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0937-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0937-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-514\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">When I first got here I wondered why there were steps on all the sidewalks. This is a flooded street in Zunil.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Worked very diligently all weekend on el calendario and I completed about six pages&#8230;was on a roll with a new treatment and I&#8217;m having a blast with this project.\u00a0 Just hope Stef and Tony like it as much as I do.\u00a0 Lety likes it&#8230;and some other guy who works here who shows up at the oddest hours and always manages to scare the crap out of me likes it.\u00a0 He just showed up at around 10pm on Saturday night and he talks so fast I never understand what he&#8217;s saying to me so I usually just nod and say \u00a8s\u00ed\u00a8 a lot.\u00a0 Although I was slightly freaked out on Saturday because of the hour and the fact that he felt it was absolutely necessary to return a wooden phallus that\u00a0<em>los payasos<\/em> use as a \u00a0prop to the table next to where I was working.\u00a0 \u00a0<em>De todos modo<\/em>s, I&#8217;m sure it was <em>nada<\/em> but it was a little weird and I didn\u00b4t say \u00a8s\u00ed\u00a8once.\u00a0 And I&#8217;m sure he was equally freaked out to see me sitting there, singing \u00a8Sugalumps\u00a8and wearing almost every piece of clothing I have including a hat, scarf and a single mitten.<\/p>\n<p>Today began my final week with Carlos.\u00a0 I requested that we study more instead of conversing because I want to target my problem areas.\u00a0 We\u00b4ll see if he listens.\u00a0 He definitely didn&#8217;t this a.m. but after the break I insisted on studying the different forms of \u00a8to become\u00a8 and we focused on definitions and examples.\u00a0 My spoken\u00a0Spanish was much better than\u00a0it was on Friday, and I found it much easier to communicate this morning.\u00a0 Maybe\u00a025\u00a0hours a week is too much.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Anyway, I told him I want our last week to be really productive and he kept agreeing&#8230;<em>veremos.<\/em>\u00a0 I am going to a different school next week for sure.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<div id=\"attachment_464\" style=\"width: 624px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_08971.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-464\" class=\"size-large wp-image-464 \" title=\"IMG_0897\" src=\"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_08971-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_08971-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_08971-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-464\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Las camionetas en Zunil.
