tengo veinte a\u00f1os, no tengo veinte a\u00f1os&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Tengo un dia magnifico! <\/em>First, my <em>maestro nuevo, Carlos,\u00a0es muy muy muy bueno.<\/em> For some reason, I lost a lot of my self-consciousness speaking today.\u00a0 I like the way he corrects me at the exact time I make a mistake.\u00a0 I like how he explains what my mistake is and why I made it and I also like the way he talks about his children and family.\u00a0 He also taught me little things like when to say \u00a8yo tambi\u00e9n\u00a8 vs. \u00a8a mi tambi\u00e9n\u00a8.\u00a0 We had incredible conversations about our respective childhoods, relationships (this seems to be a common theme with my teachers!), some philosophical exchanges on what a good life is, Guatemalan history\u00a0and human rights issues amongst\u00a0the Maya.<\/p>\n<p>After class, I went home to eat some lunch, leftovers from my yummy pasta dinner last night, but when I arrived at <em>mi casa<\/em>, Christina invited me to share lunch she made for everyone (everyone includes Stef, Leti, Christina and apparently me).\u00a0 She\u00b4s also French and is a chef at The Royal Paris, THE French restaurant in <em>zona 1<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0So far I\u00b4ve seen a French restaurant, a Tex-Mex restaurant and several Italian restaurants.\u00a0 I\u00b4ve eaten at an\u00a0Indian and Middle Eastern restaurant.\u00a0\u00a0Christina made a delicious pork and potato casserole.\u00a0\u00a0I decided to play hooky from my job today to go on a hike organized by my school.\u00a0 I don\u00b4t feel that bad because I\u00b4m waiting for a little more direction from the boys on how to proceed with the design.\u00a0 They both really liked my mockup and I\u00b4m so happy I was able to actually communicate my ideas successfully<em> en espa\u00f1ol<\/em>.\u00a0 It took me almost two hours to write that email, but it was soooo worth it!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_343\" style=\"width: 649px\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Las nubes de La Muela<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Okay, so I went on my first real\u00a0hike since I\u00b4ve been here.\u00a0 The weather has been so horrific the past week and half, we have finally had some really nice days and today was one of them.\u00a0 Cesar, the guide from Celas Maya, me and two other students\u00a0 went to La Muela (the molar) today.\u00a0 It\u00b4s a small mountain a little southwest of Xela, that was formed by an old eruption of the Santa Mar\u00eda volcano.\u00a0 I think sometime in the early 1900s.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_340\" style=\"width: 440px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0642.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-340\" class=\"size-large wp-image-340  \" title=\"IMG_0642\" src=\"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0642-1024x682.jpg\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In the back of a pickup truck on the way to La Muela<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The formations are absolutely\u00a0stunning.\u00a0 It was the perfect combo of leisurely hike and strenuous bouldering.\u00a0 Okay, it was probably mild bouldering, or more likely meandering over some rocks up a steep hill, but it was strenuous for me.\u00a0 I have to keep reminding myself that I\u00b4m not 20 anymore.\u00a0 Or other people should really remind me when I forget.\u00a0 The view of Quetzaltenango and the surrounding\u00a0mountains was magnificent.\u00a0 I can\u00b4t wait to meander up Santa Mar\u00eda!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_341\" style=\"width: 440px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-341\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yes, Cesar, we know how far down Xela is from here<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We hopped on a camioneta and then in the back of someone\u00b4s pickup truck to get to the entrance of La Muela. \u00a0We practiced speaking Spanish as we hiked up some pretty steep inclines and I couldn\u00b4t stop taking pictures. \u00a0I\u00b4m a little disappointed because I didn\u00b4t change the ISO on my camera and a lot of my pictures came out a little grainy&#8230;which I like sometimes, but really wanted these to be as crisp as the colors and textures were. \u00a0Oh well. \u00a0Next time.<\/p>\n<p>Well, it\u00b4s time to heat up some food and study&#8230;<em>mi tarea esta noche<\/em> is to translate a passage Carlos dictated to me and to write about what I did over the weekend using both past tenses.\u00a0 I practiced my Spanish a lot this afternoon with Cesar and my classmates so
