{"id":279,"date":"2010-09-09T18:29:23","date_gmt":"2010-09-10T00:29:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/?p=279"},"modified":"2010-09-09T18:29:23","modified_gmt":"2010-09-10T00:29:23","slug":"no-me-gusta-el-preterito-vs-el-imperfecto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/no-me-gusta-el-preterito-vs-el-imperfecto\/","title":{"rendered":"No me gusta el pret\u00e9rito vs. el imperfecto"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_290\" style=\"width: 440px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0436.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-290\" class=\"size-large wp-image-290   \" title=\"IMG_0436\" src=\"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0436-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0436-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0436-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-290\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mi maestra, Miriam, una mujer con mucha pacienca<\/p><\/div>\n<p>School sure was tough today. \u00a0So far<em> <\/em>it\u00b4s been pretty easy for me to fill in the the correct endings when the directions tell me to <em>cambie los siguientes verbos para el pret\u00e9rito<\/em>, but it\u00b4s a whole different ballgame to figure out when to use which past tense. \u00a0<em>Aye aye aye.<\/em> Can\u00b4t wait to move out of the past! \u00a0Although I truly fear the subjunctive past. \u00a0 Miriam insists I\u00b4m doing better than I think I am, but I was definitely a little frustrated today. \u00a0And I think she was too. \u00a0She actually returned a more advanced book that she optimistically brought with her from the office! \u00a0 We did a lot of exercises today comparing and contrasting the uses of the preterit and the imperfect (did I mention that all explanations of usage are in Spanish? \u00a0Yeah. \u00a0They are.) \u00a0So I had to choose which form (and conjugation) of the past tense to use and a lot of times I would go with my gut and then change it and my gut would be right. \u00a0 When I understand the context, I do better, but sometimes I really just don\u00b4t understand what I\u00b4m reading.<\/p>\n<p>I skipped work this aftertnoon to participate in a cooking class&#8230;will upload those pics tomorrow, this computer doesn\u00b4t like my USB thingamajig. \u00a0We made <em>masa empanadas de carne res<\/em><em> con salsa tomate natural y queso fresco<\/em>. \u00a0Mmmm. \u00a0It was really fun and I\u00b4ve only made them with flour before, but I have to write about it in the <em>el pret\u00e9rito y el imperfecto<\/em> for homework, which I\u00b4m dreading. \u00a0The class was conducted entirely in Spanish and I understood the directions and information, I think. \u00a0<em>Mi hermana guatemalteca<\/em> offered to help me and I think I\u00b4ll take her up on it.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_292\" style=\"width: 452px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0450.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-292\" class=\"size-large wp-image-292   \" title=\"IMG_0450\" src=\"http:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0450-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"442\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0450-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/triciakarsay.com\/guatemala\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/IMG_0450-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 442px) 100vw, 442px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-292\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cutie pie Gordo, getting ready to stand up.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Okay, so I am in love with the dog in <em>mi casa a<\/em>nd I am really going to miss him when I leave.<em> Gordo <\/em>(\u00a8fatty\u00a8 or maybe \u00a8fatso\u00a8)  is so adorable and cuddly and not fat at all. \u00a0He\u00b4s so playful, friendly and smart and reminds me so much of my other little Greek <em>perrito amoroso<\/em>, Houmas. \u00a0He greets me like I live there when I get home from school and work. \u00a0He constantly stands up like a person and leans on the edge of furniture or people. \u00a0He will actually put his paws on my hips and walk with me around the house. He also ate the rest of my <em>mush <\/em>this morning, so I will be forever in his debt. \u00a0It\u00b4s hard to get a good picture of him because of the extremely low lighting <em>en mi casa<\/em> and he seems to be a little afraid of the camera or constantly moving.
