There are few things that excite me more\u00a0than free wine and\u00a0wifi\u00a0in the sky. \u00a0Well maybe a few things, but not many. \u00a0I remember the\u00a0first (and only) time I made a phone call from a plane…it was equally exhilarating and so\u00a0very very Jetsons and I’m sure it was already old technology at the time, but it didn’t matter. \u00a0I was like “I’m calling you…FROM A PLANE”. \u00a0It cost $63.22 for barely 2 minutes,\u00a0but hot damn, it was worth it.<\/p>\n

Stanley, six continents under his belt and barely worse for wear. Noticed a little hole and the potential for a slightly embarrassing zipper explosion, but think he’ll pull through. \u00a0I can’t imagine traveling without him.<\/p><\/div>\n

And yet, no matter how wowed I still get by all things tech (I just found an outlet under my economy seat!), just getting good old Stanley out for another adventure is downright toe curling! \u00a0He was a little dusty, poor guy hasn’t been away for a while, he still doesn’t know how to pack himself (freakin’ millennial), but I just get so excited by his yellowness and that exclamation point that just screams “Eureka, you’re going somewhere!”<\/p>\n

(By the way, I know I sound absolutely, certifiably insane\u00a0when I talk about my backpack like he’s a person, and that he has a name…and a gender, and that I really do kind of wish he would pack himself,\u00a0and that I take pictures of him (I have one of him unpacked that I didn’t\u00a0post but only because it was a little blurry, not because it was weird or anything) but, honestly, let’s just all take a moment here to be truly thankful I haven’t started taking\u00a0mini-Tricia with me yet. \u00a0<\/em>Oh yeah…that’s\u00a0happening.)<\/em><\/p>\n

So I’m on my way to Athens now, somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean (SO COOL! I mean, 1. I’m in the sky and 2. I’m online and 3. come on,\u00a0I’m in the sky people…sorry, but that really is truly phenomenal) to visit\u00a0my dear friend Zeta and her family before heading off to Kefalonia and Zakinthos for a week or two (haven’t decided yet) and then on\u00a0to the Asturias region in Spain for a few more weeks to get my Spanish on.<\/p>\n

And I’m even more excited than usual because I’m going to places in both Greece and Spain I haven’t been yet. I was in Corfu (which is close to K&Z in the Ionian Sea) on my very first trip to Greece in 1988, back in the day when you had to find a post office and sometimes stand and\u00a0wait for one or two hours\u00a0for an operator to try and connect you to the States. Yeah, I’m that old. Guess what, Greek Island\u00a0Post Office? \u00a0I made a phone call\u00a0from the sky once! And…I have an outlet under my seat! Boom.<\/p>\n

Yeah, no more free wine for me.<\/p>\n

So, I’m going to try and post a lot on this trip (ha!) because I love to write and share photography\u00a0and stories and experiences and vent and\u00a0also to\u00a0let anyone\u00a0who worries about me (yes, even at my\u00a0age, Mommy, Sandra, Roe) know that I’m safe. \u00a0I’m going to turn comments back on (Ben) if you feel like writing and sharing and venting too! \u00a0I love reading as much as I love writing, even more.<\/p>\n
