There is a legend that this cave is named after the nymph, Melissanthi, who killed herself in the lake that sort of bears her name after being rejected by the god Pan, who is depicted as a half man half goat that always has an erection and is usually surrounded by a bunch of nymphs.
Just a little lunch break from posting about Greece from my new neighborhood in Gijón. Well not so new, I’ve been here a little over a week already and still trying to catch up.
Our first stop was Shipwreck Beach (or Paralia Navagio, παραλία ναυάγιο, in Greek). Also referred to as Smuggler’s Cove, the beach is located on the northwest coast of Zakynthos and can only be reached by boat.
I can almost hear it say “How dare you. How dare you use me for something so pedestrian, you…you neophyte. Don’t you know I have mirrors and advanced optics and sensors and that I am built to help you control perspective and light and now you’re holding me above your head like I’m a … phone??”

Drove through a pedestrian zone full of shaking fists so he could show me the main drag in the small town, drove by Manolis Taverna (best meat!) and the supermarket (there’s a psychopath don’t go there!) and then we stopped at their hotel to meet Voula.
